Digital Design
Concept of Examen:
:: PROJECT WEBSITE :: www.katrin-gerstaecker.de/pathfinder/start :: The focus of the thesis is the development of an innovative interface-architecture with innovative navigation principles and intelligent information visualizations. The intention is to create an expedient alternative to current “Desktop-Metaphor-based” systems like Windows, Mac OS and Linux-distributions. The purpose is to eliminate existing problems regarding usability, data increasing, new digital standards and evolving computer-aided fields of work. :: The main interaction instrument is a dynamic timeline which is ought to navigate to different layers for data access. Therefore different groups of users are urged to navigate in several sections referring individual knowledge, preferences and purpose. Arranging the data chronologically, they are classified and detectable rapidly by exact parameters so that none could be lost in illogical one-dimensional hierarchies. Selecting a whole project or single file all included documents or several document pages are presented with a thumbnail via Cover-Flow within the minimized workspace. Clustering related data by project state the timeline is predestinated for the integration of whole project management systems. :: Within the complex system no applications are integrated but single tool-panels. By combining them the maximized comprehensive workspace is to be used as well as document- and image-viewer, as text- and layout-editor, as media-player, as browser, instant messenger, as game-panel, graphic-tool etc without the need of additive applications. Therefore consistent layouts, a uniform formal language, comprehensive interaction principles and terminologies are guaranteed. :: The interaction method is realized by a docking principle by combining components (files) and available actions (view, edit, configure, initialize, delete) via drag-and-drop procedures. By selecting a file the "docking panel" appears at the actual dateline offering polygon shapes as indicator for available options. Dragging the “polygon-pin” and docking to the panel the required action is executed. :: Using the system restore mode the user can take differentiated interventions within the whole working processes or particular files. The batch processing mode is ought to transfer particular production steps to other files for an efficient and automated workflow. Furthermore it can be performed a restore of a complete work session by dragging the actual dateline to a previous work status.
