| These paintings stem from an interest in carnival and ritural in early modern Europe. Carnival was traditionally a time of unrule, excess eating, drinking and ritural games. It was also a time of increased sexual activity and violence. These paintings explore themes of excess, popular imagery, sex , violence, unrule and the notion of the world upside down. |
